Like the best of David Lynch, you're never quite sure if what you're seeing is really happening, or if it's some awful hallucinatory episode, a skipping record lodged in the. Audition articulates the notion that Miike doesn't have an ideological stance, per se, yet he makes films about characters and situations that cannot be ignored.

It stars Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, who travel through Asia and compete against each other for a potential role in Scorsese's next film.
